Another drawback of plain text is how it butchers basic writing concepts like blockquotes, section headings and most especially in my opinion: lists.

Just take a good look the list below and behold it in all it's simple glory. Notice some of the basic things that we take for granted. Bullets, indentation, nesting, etc.
