Trip to Wooded Hill Campground

⬆️ Plan For Going Up

Cesar and Al are going meet at this rest area on Sat morning and roll out at 10:

Then we’re going to do this route up and camp overnight somewhere along the way:

This is a truncated version of the route Samer made for us.

We’re skipping the Descanso to Guatay miles for two reasons:

  1. Cesar plans on going straight to work on Monday morning from the Wooded Hill campground, plus it’s the first ride of his new gravel bike.
  2. Al has an epic big return trip and will be biking back home, which will make this weekend twice the distance and 7x the elevation gain from his only other multi-night ride with full panniers.

⬇️ Coming Back Down

Al & Cesar are going to bomb down Sunrise Highway (whee!) and then Cesar’s turning left after I-8 to go back to his car at the rest stop:

Al’s going to turn right and then go into granny gear tortoise mode to limp it the rest of the way:

📡 Support & Comms

Melissa and Michelle have graciously agreed to be our emergency contacts and to track our progress on Al’s Garmin. I plan on pinging them with check-ins for things like starting the route and setting up camp.

This plan was ratified at a very formal meeting at City Tacos 🍻

4 person planning team toasting a solid ride plan

Al’s loaded the routes into his Garmin Inreach Mini 2 to use it as a bike computer, plus also for satellite messaging and location tracking. Cesar is going to use his new Coros Dura bike computer for the route.

We’re both finally going to use non-phone gadgets as our primary devices because that was a big lesson learned from our recon rides. Both of our phones got so cooked that they stopped charging and lost a ton of juice!

🙏 Thank You!

And finally, a huge shoutout to everyone that’s helped pitch in to make this adventure happen! Let’s do this 💪
